Answering your questions about online iconography course

Over the past few weeks, I have received many questions from you about online iconography courses, so I decided to answer them in the blog.

Which studying format to choose:

 - Is it possible to learn and understand everything in video course format?

The video course format is the best option for those who have experience in icon painting and feel quite confident in face modeling, in particular; but want to write exactly this icon, or to learn the technique. All videos explain each process in detail, however the student should be prepared to fix the mistakes themselves.

 - Do I need individual training if I have already written a few icons?

The course format will be especially useful for those who lack confidence when writing an icon. And also for those who need feedback and step-by-step teacher guidance. We will discuss in detail all the nuances of writing the face of Christ, lettering, colors application, etc. The teacher will help you to fix the mistakes and answer your questions.

Materials:

 - Are the materials included in the course price? Does the teacher ship materials?

Materials are not included in the course price. I also do not ship materials. However, I can give recommendations of materials and advise where they can be purchased or ordered.

Duration of studying and writing the icon:

 - How much time does the process of writing an icon take?

The speed of writing an icon may vary depending on the student's skills and even temperament. On average, you need to allocate about 40 hours for such an icon.

 - What is the intensity of classes?

The intensity of classes is agreed with the student or group. For those who have a busy schedule, training once a week is best. If you are able to devote more time to studying, meetings can be conducted 2-4 times a week.

 - How long do online meetings last?

Online meetings last at least 30 minutes. However, depending on the stage of writing the icon and the number of questions of the student, it can take up to two hours. 

   - How will meetings with the teacher be conducted ?

Meetings will be conducted on the zoom platform. The teacher and the student will watch a video of the process with a detailed explanation. The student can ask their question or clarify any details. In addition, we will compare different icons and their features. Analyze how you can apply the acquired knowledge when writing another icon. And we will also consider alternative painting options at some stages. At the student's request, we can change some color of the icon.

 - I want to take part in the course, but the start date (December 1) is not convenient. Will there be one more course later?

You can take part in training at any time convenient for you, because registration for the course is continuous. In addition, you will not only be able to choose a convenient start date for you, but also a comfortable intensity of classes.

-What will I learn at the online iconography course?

At the course you will learn:

 - to write correct iconographic lines

 - to apply color evenly

 - the methods of optical and mechanical mixing of colors and how to use them

 - to write the Jesus’ Face and hair

 - to cover the icon with the varnish in several different ways

 - to make lettering on the icon

 - correctly store and transport icons
